Areas of practice

Four areas, and nothing outside them. If you need something else we will name someone who does it properly.

  • Employment

Mostly claimant work: dismissal, discrimination and the settlement conversations that happen before a tribunal is ever booked.

  • Housing

Disrepair, possession and deposit disputes. A good deal of this is a strongly worded letter that works within a fortnight.

  • Family

Separation, children arrangements and finances. We will tell you when mediation is the cheaper and better route.

  • Wills and probate

Fixed fee for a straightforward will, hourly only where an estate genuinely warrants it.

Three disciplines under one roof

Eleven engineers, all chartered, all in the same office. Nothing is subcontracted without telling you first.

  • Structural

Calculations, details and site inspections for anything from a removed chimney breast to a four-storey frame.

    What we need from you
  • Civil

Drainage, levels and highways. The unglamorous work that decides whether planning goes through first time.

    Typical timescales
  • Party wall

Awards, schedules of condition, and acting for either side. We will say plainly when a surveyor is not needed at all.

    Do you need one?

What you can commission

Four things, priced as projects rather than retainers. We have never run a monthly retainer and do not intend to.

  • Naming

Four weeks, thirty candidates, six that survive a trademark search. You will hate most of them and that is normal.

  • Identity

A mark, a typeface, a palette and the rules for using them. Delivered as files you own outright, not a licence.

  • Packaging

Artwork through to print-ready, with a press check we attend. The colour on the box is our problem, not yours.

  • Guidelines

Twenty pages someone will actually read, rather than the ninety-page document nobody opens twice.

Which survey you actually need

Ring us with the address before you book anything. The advice is free and often talks people down a level.

  • Homebuyer report

The middle option, and the right one for most houses built after 1930 that are not obviously falling down.

  • Building survey

Full and slow. Worth it for anything period, extended, or that made you uneasy on the second viewing.

  • Specific defect

One crack, one damp patch, one roof. Cheaper than a full survey and often all that is actually needed.

How we charge, in full

Every fee we take is on this page. There is no rate card behind a form and no negotiation we would not publish.

  • Permanent

Twelve per cent, payable on start date, refunded in full if the person leaves inside three months.

  • Contract

A flat daily margin printed on every timesheet, so the contractor knows exactly what we take.

  • Retained search

For roles where advertising will not work. Paid in thirds and we report weekly whether or not there is news.

  • Advice, free

Salary benchmarks and job descriptions, given to anyone who asks. Roughly half of them never hire through us.
