Guests are still talking about the lamb a year later. They planned the menu around my grandmother’s recipe and never once made it feel like a compromise.

Half our guests were vegetarian Swedes and half were Yorkshire farmers. Everyone went back for seconds. That is diplomacy.

Nine months from crutches to parkrun. The plan changed every fortnight because I changed every fortnight — that is the part no video tutorial gives you.
Nobody else took the pain seriously. Two assessments here found what eighteen months of being told to rest had missed.
I am a plasterer. No shoulder, no work. They treated the job as part of the injury and built the rehab around a hawk and trowel.

Week one I made an ashtray by accident. Week ten I made a teapot on purpose. The teacher claps for both, which is why I keep coming back.
My wife booked me in to get me off my phone. Now the phone is full of photographs of glazes. Different problem, better problem.
The kiln gods took my first three bowls and gave back a fourth better than I deserved. Nobody warns you pottery is a personality.
