Merino is the traveller's fibre: it regulates temperature, resists odour and doesn't crease. Tencel drapes well and dries fast. Mid-weight cotton is forgiving and easy to replace anywhere.

Linen looks wonderful and creases if you glance at it. Bring it only if you genuinely like the rumpled look by day two.
